The weather here in Montana has FINALLY turned nice. We have actually made it into the 70's these last couple days. I love the sun and getting out into the great outdoors, it usually puts me in a great mood and gives me tons of energy.
Yesterday I decided to cut out of work early. Chef had most of the day off so we planned to do something outside. I got home and we packed up the dog and some hiking gear. Chef kept wanting to hike close to home and do an easy hike. I didn't want to hike to close to home since I can do most of those hikes any day after work. I have a great hiking book for our valley that I crused through and picked a nice easy hike to a lake that I had done before. I know this hike and that it wasn't going to be to long, only 4 miles round trip. I figured when we got to the lake we would let the dog swim and take a break on a nice rocky spot by the lake. We had plenty of time to take it slow and really enjoy the day.
On the way to the trailhead Chef was really quiet and when asked kept saying he was fine that he would do the hike. We got to the trail and started our hike. He was a bit behild me (I'm not a fast hiker at all but he was behind me). Finally about half mile in I told him to be honest with me and tell me if he was ok. He then admitted that he was dizzy, was having vision issues, and his mouth was numb. These are all things that he has been experiencing for some time so they aren't something caused by the exercise. Him telling me what was really going on helped us to talk about things which was nice. He only made it a mile in before he said that we needed to go back to the car. This made me upset for I really wanted this hike and to be outside as long as possible, I tried though to not let it show. On the way back he admitted that his feet to have both been bothering him for a while. He has had an issue with his big toe for serveral weeks that I knew about. He hasn't said anything about it for a few weeks so I thought it was getting better. Apparently the pain in it gone but now he just doesn't feel it as much. Now his big toe on the other foot is hurting. He says it feels as though it was hit with a hammer. After admiting this he did agree to call his neuro today. The issue with his feet got us talking about his work.
He isn't sure how much longer he is going to be able to cook and stand on his feet for 8 hours a day. He doesn't know what else he would be able to do. This is what he has done for so long he knows nothing else. We walked and brainstormed about what he could do. Hopefully we will be able to make the finacial eligibility requirements of vocational rehabilitation to get him retrained in another field. We know he will qualify due to his disability but aren't sure about the money part. If he does qualify then they will help pay for retraining/schooling. He told me to give them a call and make an apointment today, so we will see.
