D-Day aka Diagnosis day

Sorry for the delay in update. I know that this was a big update to get behind on.

Anyway, Tuesday was our big day! Chef just wanted to get the appointment over and treatment started. He was feeling pretty certain that he would receive a diagnosis of MS and get on with life and treatment. I was a bit more worked up. I think towards the future much more then he does, thus I was thinking of all the what ifs and the financial aspect of treatment.

As we walked back to the neuro's office I was breathing deeply and wanted to turn and run the other way. I must say I found a new respect and love for Chef's neurologist. The man has a bedside manner that is truly amazing. He was able to break us the news that yes Chef's does have MS without either of us feeling like the diagnosis was the end of the world and life as we know it. He reviewed the results of all the testing. Chef's numbers were elevated in most areas but elevated only slightly. This helped us to not freak out. The neuro then said yes you have MS and lets talk treatment. Chef will soon start once a day shots of a med called Copaxone. We are also lucky enough to live in a state that has legalized medical marijuana. His neuro also agreed to assisting him in getting his medical card so he will be able to start this natural treatment as well. If you are saying "what the hell smoke pot why would someone want to do that", there are a lot of legitimate reasons for this treatment. Studies show that it can slow the progression of MS by about 30%, it also helps with pain, muscle spasms, weight lose, etc...

We are actually doing okay with the diagnosis. We really want to begin treatment and move on with life. For all the fear and anxiety that we have experienced thus far there really is a lot of relief in just having a diagnosis and being able to move forward.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. And you sound pretty positive and upbeat which I know will go a long way since attitude seems to be everything.

i echo Adam's thoughts...

(And on a slight different note, I left you something at my blog)
