When we learned a few years ago that Chef's mom had MS we did our research and supported her any way we could. We were thankful that she has many brothers and sisters that were willing to help her. We listened to the impact that it is having on her life. Her struggles to walk, to drive, and do everyday activities. We have never felt the full impact of her condition due to the fact we live over 2000 miles from her. She is not the woman that I met 7 years ago. Though she is a fighter she no longer sparkles like she used to. I had thought that maybe one day we would wind up caring for her due, since Chef is an only child. I never thought that MS would come to impact my life the way it is.
Chef Began having vision problems several months ago. His field of vision was interrupted in the middle. This made everything difficult, especially work. He went to see the Dr. and was told everything looked fine. He was referred to the optometrist to see if there were any causes within his eyes. He went and was given a clean bill of health. His eyes were fine, the Dr attributed his problems to stress. Within a few days his vision was restored. Life continued at its same pace for a while. Then out of the blue the crown of his head and one whole side of his face went numb. He was annoyed and couldn't shave do to the pain shaving would create. We again thought this might be stress related. His hand then began to become numb as well. Back to the Dr he went. This time the Dr ordered an MRI. They got the results back and they indicated abnormality. Chef got a message from the Dr's nurse about the need for spinal tap there was some confusion as to where he needed this with radiation or radiology. This sent life into a tail spin. We were able to connect with a different Dr who helped to calm us and got us into the Neuro ASAP and said she would let the Neuro decided if a spinal tap was needed. This Dr also did blood work to see if something else could be causing the issues. Blood work came back as low Vit B. OK that is easy, time for shots to bring it up. We meet with the neuro. He agreed with the possible cause as being low Vit B. Great we can move on. Things got better numbness went away. Life was looking positive again...until. Another month goes by and now there is a feeling of being in an elevator and reaching your destination and the sensation that you get in your head when you come to a stop. That began occurring several times a day without reason. We contacted the neuro, he order another MRI before the next appointment with him. Had the MRI, met with the Dr. There were changes in the MRI not for the good. He then ordered the spinal tap. We had this done Monday. Now we wait. We will know the results on Tuesday next week.
